Colorado Vote-By-Mail Primary is a Model for the Country
Candidates looking for success come November must address racial, economic and immigrant justice
On Tuesday, June 30, 2020, Colorado held their state and local primary elections. Community Change Action worked with local state partners to engage over a hundred thousand high and low propensity Colorado voters ahead of the election.
Community Change Action National Political Director Grecia Lima said:
“The rest of the country can learn a lot from Colorado on how to conduct a vote-by-mail system that ensures voices of color, low-income voices, young voices and women voices are heard. For years, the state has improved their process including ballots automatically mailed to all registered voters, automatic voter registration, proactive updates of voter addresses, and same-day voter registration for those who miss the mail-in deadline. These processes have proven to increase turnout among youth, Black, Latino, low-income and high-school level education voters. Any politician spreading lies about the validity of vote-by-mail is only trying to suppress those votes and cheat the American people.
Our electoral work in Colorado is just heating up. With our partners in the state, we have a robust, virtual canvassing operation ensuring that any candidate who wants to succeed in Colorado in November will need to address racial and economic justice issues, as well as the concerns of the large and politically active immigrant community in the state.”
