Our Fight For Economic Freedom Starts Today
On Inauguration Day, Community Change Action Co-President Dorian Warren issued the following statement:
“Families from coast to coast aspire to live with joy and dignity–pillars at the heart of a true democracy. We deserve to have access to the care we need, to have safe, affordable centers to send our kids while we go to work, to put food on the table, to have enough money each month to cover our bills and save for a rainy day, and to keep our families healthy. In short, a people’s economy.
What Trump and Republicans have proposed is a billionaire’s economy that will make corporations and the ultra-wealthy even richer at the expense of everyone else. They intend to fund attacks on immigrants and devastate communities nationwide by cutting vital safety net programs like Medicaid and SNAP, ACA, Head Start, and Medicare which will throw tens of millions of people into poverty, debt and health crises.
As the 47th President is sworn in, we are standing firm in the power we know we have: the power to fight back against regressive policies that threaten our lives and build the future we want. For 57 years, we have organized movements to improve the material lives of everyday people, particularly Black, Latino, low-income and immigrant communities. The next four years won’t be any different. We’re fighting for a multiracial democracy, our human rights, and an America where everyone can thrive.
Community Change’s North Star is to build a grassroots movement to abolish poverty. We are steadfast in the march toward that goal today by organizing online and in person, listening and talking to people who don’t feel seen or heard and want a change in the status quo, and building community with our neighbors. We see a unique opportunity to unite poor and low-income people in finding their collective power, to call out those who oppress us, and to grow our movement to secure economic freedom for all.”
