Community Change Action Celebrates at White House Signing of Executive Order on Care

Our co-presidents and several childcare worker-organizers were in attendance at this historic signing

Today, President Biden signed an executive order with more than 50 directives to federal agencies supporting affordable care for families and quality jobs for care workers. Community Change Action Co-Presidents Lorella Praeli and Dorian Warren and several of our childcare worker-organizers were in attendance at the signing.

Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in speaking with any of the childcare workers in attendance.

The following is the response from Community Change Co-Presidents Lorella Praeli and Dorian Warren:

“Care providers, families and organizers have worked so hard for years for care work to be recognized and prioritized. They have continually shined a light on the need to fund the true cost of care –  so that families can afford it, providers are paid a living wage with good benefits, and all children and people we care for have the same opportunity to thrive. They’ve organized their communities and elected officials – and the Biden Administration has been listening. From the American Rescue Plan to this executive order, the President has heard us loud and clear that we need a system of care that can keep care workers in the jobs they love and make care accessible for every family.

As one of the industries led disproportionately by women of color, this gets us closer to closing the racial and gender wealth gaps. Today, President Biden has taken important steps to get us closer to a 21st century childcare system and now Congress needs to finish the job.”

This announcement comes on the day several of our partners and Childcare Changemakers participated in the Care Can’t Wait Summit in D.C. In just a couple of weeks, Community Change Childcare Changemakers will host the 2nd annual Day Without Child Care on May 8, where hundreds of childcare providers plan to close their doors for the day, with support from the families they serve and the community, to put a spotlight on the GOP greed that has kept us from making the transformative changes we need for a childcare system that works for everyone.
