NationwideAs the urgency of our childcare crisis grows with providers grossly underpaid, parents unable to find or afford daycare slots, and women forced out of the workforce, Community Change Action’s Childcare Changemakers are coming together for the 2nd annual Day Without Child Care. The day of action will take place with events across the country on Monday, May 8, 2023 and we invite members of the media to attend a pre-event virtual press conference on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

While the House GOP is doing everything in their power to prevent solutions moving forward, including threatening to default on our federal government unless massive cuts are made to programs that help working families – childcare providers, parents, and allies plan to shed a light on the true cost of care and demand funding for a 21st century childcare system that is rooted in racial and gender justice. Among their demands are living wages for providers and affordable care for all families.

This year’s action follows last year’s historic day of action where nearly 400 child care providers shut their doors for the day, with support from the community, and thousands more took part in solidarity events – totaling more than 50 actions in over 27 states.

The Day Without Child Care website will be updated periodically with a full list of actions taking place across the country.
