GOP Tax Cuts Will Be Paid For By Working Families
To Make the Rich Richer, the Poor Will Get Poorer

(WASHINGTON)—The tax cuts House Republicans are promising their wealthy friends and corporations will be paid for by working families and the poor, said Dorian Warren, president of the Center for Community Change Action (CCC Action).

“Do not be fooled by the talk of tax cuts from Republicans, because it will ultimately cost millions of hardworking families billions when the GOP scrambles to pay for the gifts they are giving to the uber wealthy,” Warren said. “Medicare, Medicaid and SNAP will no doubt be on the chopping block for tens of millions of Americans who rely on these essential programs.”

“After people all over this country stood up in opposition to GOP attempts to decimate Medicaid and the ACA in order to give tax breaks to the wealthy, they are trying to do the same thing under the guise of ‘tax reform,’” Warren said. “And once again they wrote their plan largely in secret and are trying to ram it through as quickly as possible because they know once the American people understand what this bill will do, it will face the same type of intense opposition. How many times do regular people need to stand up and say they do not want the GOP to attack the programs and services we all rely on to make rich people richer?”

“The draft tax plan should be swiftly rejected and sent back for a complete rewrite that takes into account the constituents Republicans were elected to represent,” Warren added. “Every citizen in this country should be outraged at this sham of a plan that is a huge gift to the super rich. And every lawmaker who cares about the working families in their districts should rise up to defeat this plan.”

“This is a cruel document that completely overlooks what working families need,” Warren said. “Essential programs like Medicare, Medicaid and SNAP cannot be raided to pay for the tax cuts for the wealthy friends of Republicans.”
