Michigan MAGA Republicans Try to Stand in the Way of Democracy, Women, and Black Voters

We will fight to preserve reproductive rights and for every vote to be counted.

On Wednesday, August 31 the Michigan Board of State Canvassers rejected a ballot initiative to preserve the reproductive rights of Michiganders. Community Change Action National Political Director Grecia Lima said:

“Once again MAGA Republicans in Michigan are attempting to stand in the way of democracy and stop peoples’ voices from being heard. More than 750,000 Michiganders – nearly double the number needed to qualify – signed a petition in support of this ballot initiative to protect their freedom to control their own bodies and their own healthcare. These extremist Republicans know their policies for an abortion ban without exemptions for rape or incest are inhumane and wildly unpopular and they’d have to cheat to win.

We will fight, with our partners, for every vote to be counted – especially those of women, Black, and low-income voters who have come out in support of reproductive rights. This will be on the ballot, and after November, it will be in the Michigan constitution.”
