Retirement Security

“America’s Social Security system was built to withstand a lot of challenges, but it wasn’t designed to address the way that the greedy few have thrown our economy out of balance and trapped generations of people in low wages. In this country we have relied on a ‘3-legged stool’ of retirement income: Social Security, a pension and personal savings. Our three-part system is falling apart now because big business shifted financial risk to retirees by eliminating pensions, and moving people’s savings into risky retirement accounts. On top of that, employers are not paying enough for everyday people to make ends meet, let alone save. It’s time for us to expand on the strong foundation of Social Security and to put a stop to the low-wage economy that is trapping Americans in poverty during both their working years and their retirement.”
– Mary Dailey, Retirement Security Program Director

What We Do

Community Change Action Retirement Security campaign works to ensure that critical social programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are protected and strengthened for generations to come.

  • Grassroots Ambassadors

We work with local groups to recruit and train volunteer leaders to organize members of their communities to advocate for policies, legislation and leaders that protect and strengthen Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

  • Give a Care

Many retirement benefits are based on lifetime earnings, which create a disadvantage for individuals who take time out of the workforce to care for family members. CCCAction wants Congress to give caregivers a retirement benefit credit to acknowledge their contributions to society. Learn more about our work.

  • Expanding Social Security

CCCAction and our partners are working to get our elected leaders and news media to stop talking about Social Security cuts, and start seeing the value of an across-the-board benefit increase as well as an improved benefit formula that truly reflects the cost-of-living increases seniors face. Learn more about our policy recommendations.

  • Manufactured Home Organizing Project

Many families that live in manufactured housing communities depend on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. We’re working with grassroots leaders who live in manufactured home communities to engage them in the fight to protect and strengthen our nation’s vital retirement security benefits.
